'Populus Flucta'

These are actually not some kind of popular trees, but rather the nesting colonies of the sociable weavers in the Kalahari desert.
The weaver birds build their nests in tall trees or in this case man-made poles. The nesting material is harvested by local farmers to be sold as an industrial fire retardant and gets its color from the nearby Red dunes.
